One of the most popular American horror films in the year 2005 was "The Exorcism of Emily Rose." As the stated in the said film, the story that unfolded in it were based on a true story. As to which life it was based was not entirely disclosed.
The story in the said film is said to have been based from the accounts of the exorcism conducted on Anneliese Michel in the year 1975. A year later, Michel passed away.

Anneliese is known among her friends, relatives, pears, and neighbors to be a smart, compassionate, and an immensely religious Catholic girl. She is respected for her deep religious faith. However, when she turned 17 in 1969, Anneliese is said to have experienced epileptic-like seizures--during which she is said to have convulsions. When examined, experts were said to have been able to ascertain that she had intense psychosis. Thus, she was later on diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy. This impelled the decision to have her confined in a psychiatric hospital. However, instead of palliating from her illness, her condition seemed to have been aggravated and thus lead to the abjection of her circumstances.
Upon turning 20, Michel is said to have started questioning various religious symbolisms such as the crucifix among others. According to accounts, Michel suffered from severe depressions which often lead to hallucinations. She then claimed of hearing demonic voices which lead her to conclude that the she would "rot in hell." Despite being given proper medical treatment, Michel's condition worsened and was never able to recover since then.

Physicians became baffled when Michel started becoming suicidal. This later on convinced her loved ones that she has been possessed by demons. Despite this, the priests advised that Michel continue on with her medical treatment. When her condition continued to deteriorate, the priests, Ernst Alt and Arnold Renz, then decided to administer exorcism procedure in 1975. Joseph Stangl, Archbishop of the local diocese, was approached in order to obtain his permission to perform the secret rites of exorcism. He later on gave this permission and the exorcism rites were administered for almost a year.
According to the accounts of the exorcism rites, Michel was said have some sort of demonic faces. She was said to have ripped her own clothes, ate charcoal, and licked her own urine. The demons inside her were later on allegedly identified as Lucifer, Cain, Judas Iscariot, Nero, and Adolf Hitler.
Nearing her death, Michel was said to have talked about martyr death. She later on refused to eat. on July 01, 1976, at the age of 23, Michel passed away. The cause of her death were later on identified as starvation and dehydration. 67 exorcism rites were said to have been administered to her. According to the priests, her death signalled her freedom from the bondage perpetrated by the demons that possessed her.
Later on, the state prosecutor filed a case of negligent homicide against the family of Michel as well as the priests who conducted the rites of exorcism. They were later on sentenced to be imprisoned for six months plus some hefty fines.
